Haurchefant is the only one to notice this.- Haurchefant teaches Chai the way of the knight as a means of bonding with and steering Chai away from the dark arts.- Despite Haurchefant's efforts and support, the weight of the Azure Dragoon title and lingering trauma of the Bloody Banquet eventually grow to be too much for Chai. The event serves as a wake-up call for Grimm, who vows to be more present for Chai.- Grimm learns to harness the power of Bahamut (Dreadwyrm Trance) during the fight with Nidhogg in the Aery. However, this power terrifies Chai, scarred by the fall of Dalamud and the sight of Bahamut breaking free the night Chai's parents died.- The shock of Haurchefant's death at the Vault causes Chai's inner darkness to fully separate and manifest its own physical form, named Clove by Grimm.- Burdened by his inability to save Haurchefant, Grimm abandons the way of the Summoner and takes up the healing arts (Astrologian).- Grimm, Chai, and Clove chase after Thordan to avenge Haurchefant. Clove tempts Chai with the promise of power in exchange for total control over Chai. Chai refuses.- Clove's vicious bloodlust and rampant disregard for everyone's safety surfaces in the fights against Ascian Prime and Thordan. Chai is hailed as a hero and dubbed the second Warrior of Light.

Stormblood

- Zenos almost kills Chai at Rhalgr's Reach. Grimm calls upon the power of Dreadwrym Trance to rescue Chai and Clove, but in doing so catches Zenos's attention in the process.- Shaken by almost losing Chai, Grimm tells both Chai and Clove to stay in Mor Dhona while he, Lyse, and the others go to Kugane.- Chai and Clove sneak onto Carvallain's ship and get found out once they're at sea. After saving Alphinaud and proving themselves at the Sirensong Sea by working together, Grimm and Lyse reluctantly agree to bring them along to Doma.- Grimm and Lyse start dating to cope with losing people they cared about (Haurchefant, Papalymo). They keep it a secret from the rest of the party.- Grimm and Yugiri try to assassinate Zenos outside of Namai. It fails, and Grimm once again calls upon the power of Dreadwyrm Trance to protect his friends. However, repeated uses of Dreadwyrm Trance are starting to wear on him, and he feels it getting harder and harder to claw his mind back from Bahamut each time.- At Bardam's Mettle, a Yol peers into Clove's heart and sees the beginnings of a soul, born from time spent traveling with Grimm and Chai.- Grimm, Gosetsu, and Clove are sent by Magnai to spy on the Dotharl. Gosetsu and Clove muse about life, death, and rebirth. Clove wonders what would happen to them when Chai finally accepts the inner darkness.- Chai and Clove emerge as victors of the Naadam together.- The gang returns to Rhalgr's Reach.- Happy 14th Birthday, Chai! Turns out, you're a girl. Chai decides that she will unpack this later.- Grimm and Zenos face off at the Royal Menagerie. Grimm refuses to enter Dreadwyrm Trance out of fear of losing his mind to Bahamut. Zenos, disappointed that Grimm would refuse to use this power, fuses with Shinryu to kill him.- Chai, despite her fear of Shinryu, becomes desperate for a way to protect Grimm. She embraces her inner darkness and temporarily fuses with Clove to fight Shinryu.- Chai's Dark Knight soul crystal cracks when she deals the finishing blow to Shinyru, and Chai and Clove end up forcibly separated. However, Clove loses the ability to speak and draw upon the power of darkness.- Chai seeks out Sidurgu and Rielle to find a way to restore Clove's voice. She meets Myste, who offers to restore her Dark Knight soul crystal in exchange for her help.- Upon Chai realizing Myste's true nature as a manifestation of Chai's regrets and sadness, Clove regains her voice and the duo fight Myste together.- With great sorrow, Chai acknowledges that she'd made peace with her inner darkness during the fight with Shinryu, but she refused to fully accept it because doing so would cause Clove to disappear. Fighting Myste helps Chai come to terms with her inevitable goodbye.- Chai, Clove, and Grimm return to the Vault to watch one last sunset together. Chai holds out her hand; she and Clove merge to be a single being once more.- Grimm and Lyse mutually break up on amicable terms.- Grimm goes treasure hunting Alphinaud and Arenvald to cope with the loss of Clove and his breakup with Lyse.- Grimm also picks up Dancer as a coping mechanism.- Grimm and Chai both feel the pull of the voice from beyond the Rift, though neither are forcibly dragged over. Grimm recognizes the voice, but he dares not to hope.

Shadowbringers

- Grimm and Chai cross the Rift to the First. The Exarch explains that Alphinaud is in Eulmore, while Alisaie and Clove (?!) are in Amh Araeng. Grimm and Chai book it to Amh Araeng.- Clove, as it turns out, had grown her own soul during their Stormblood adventures. After Chai and Clove rejoined, the Exarch's misfired summoning spell pulled her soul out of Chai and to the First. Being separated from Chai and now lacking the ability to harness darkness, Clove trained under the Exarch and Lyna as a Bard during the year she spent on the First.- Chai finds out her room at the Pendants is haunted by Ardbert. She's cool with it! Ardbert slowly becomes her new concerned older brother.- Chai harnesses the power of darkness, kills Lightwarden Philia, and absorbs the primordial light. The Exarch dubs Chai the Warrior of Darkness.- Grimm attempts to absorb Lightwarden Titania's light, fails, and his tail ends up light-scorched tail for his efforts, so Chai consumes the light instead.- Grimm and Thancred bond over being dads to cosmically important daughters.(Everything up to Mount Gulg happens as normal)- On the verge of succumbing to the Light, Chai journeys to the Tempest alone. She collapses partway, and Emet-Selch scoops her up and drops her off in a recreation of Azem's office in Amaurot.- Grimm, Clove, and the Scions discover Chai's disappearance and chase after her.(Amaurot happens)- Grimm delves into the depths of the Crystal Tower on the First and recovers a hopeful recording left by an older Chai from the Black Rose timeline.

Endwalker

Grimmjaquez Jaegerjow

Postman here to deliver Eorzea from doom...?

AGE: 21 (ARR), 27 (ENW)
PRONOUNS: He/Him
RACE: Miqo'te (Keeper of the Moon)
JOBS: SMN, AST, DNC
Grimm might be dumb, but he has a heart of gold. He does his best to support his friends and loved ones, and he’s a dutiful postman to boot! Though the Scions initially believed Grimm to be Hydaelyn's champion, his adopted daughter, Chai, is actually the true chosen one.

BACKGROUND
- Grimm is the most normal guy. He has a healthy relationship with his parents, extended family, and coworkers.
- His father is a Seeker of the Sun Miqo'te from the M tribe, and his mother is a Keeper of the Moon Miqo'te who from Sharlayan.
- His parents hunt giant crabs in a small town in La Nocea, and they run a crab cake bar.
- Grimm has two brothers and four sisters (he is the third-youngest child).
- M’naago Rahz is Grimm’s second cousin on his father’s side; Lalah Jinjahl is Grimm’s second cousin on his mother’s side.
- He became a postman shortly after the Seventh Umbral Calamity at age 16 (the Moogles needed someone to help with the mail pieces larger than them).
- His Carbuncle, Bean Dip, accompanies him on his mail route.
- Grimmjaquez Jaegerjow isn't actually his real name.
NOTES
- He’s pretty physically weak in comparison to the rest of the Scions (same physical strength as the person typing this), but he’s extremely proficient in magic.
- Grimm absorbed a little too much Bahamut aether during the Coils of Bahamut and can turn slightly draconic during battle frenzies.
- He is allergic to lilies.
- His favorite food is anything that's been thrown into a fire and is served on a stick.

Relationships

Chai - Beloved child
Chai is Grimm's pride and joy, his greatest treasure.
Grimm feels deeply responsible for her safety and well-being, especially after the events of the Bloody Banquet. He desperately wants to protect Chai from the ardors that come with being Hydaelyn's champion, but deep down, he knows that he can’t keep her from her fate forever. Grimm does his best to shoulder some of the burden and support her every way he can!Clove - Unexpected child, loved dearly
Though the circumstances of Clove's existence upsets Grimm (he feels like he should have noticed Chai's precarious mental state before Fray’s Soul Crystal brought Clove into existence), he can't bring himself to resent Clove, who he realizes is a scared, lost child, not unlike Chai. He helps Clove find and treasure the parts of herself that are “her” and not just an extension of Chai’s feelings that birthed her.
G'raha - His first love
Grimm met G’raha by chance while delivering letters in Mor Dhona and was pulled into helping investigate the Crystal Tower. By the end of their grand adventure, Grimm and G’raha were absolutely smitten with one another. Grimm made a promise to chronicle his adventures for G’raha to read whenever he woke up in the distant future, and these chronicles took the form of letters that Grimm diligently delivered to the Crystal Tower every few moons.
After returning home from Norvrandt, it takes a while for Grimm and G’raha to find their footing together again–after all, the years between have changed them so much, and they can’t just pick up where they left off. But it’s not so bad: Grimm has enjoyed getting to know and to fall in love with G’raha all over again.Haurchefant - Loved and lost
After fleeing to Ishgard, Grimm and Haurchefant quickly found themselves intertwined in one another’s daily lives. It happened so seamlessly that it was nigh impossible to pinpoint the exact day they became an inseparable part of one another, and it happened so naturally that an outsider looking in would have believed that the pair had been together for their entire lives.
But just as quickly as Haurchefant had entered Grimm’s life, he left. Shaken, Grimm abandoned the way of the summoner and dedicated himself to learning the healing arts instead.Lyse - Ex’s that are on surprisingly good terms
Grimm and Lyse mutually crushed on each other from afar prior to the Bloody Banquet. They mutually decided to get together shortly after the attack on Rhalgr’s Reach, and their relationship was a poorly-kept secret during their adventures in Doma. Following the liberation of Ala Mhigo, Grimm and Lyse came to realize that their feelings for one another had changed, and they would be better as friends (though they would always treasure the feelings they once had for one another and the time they spent together). They make an effort to meet up and catch up over tea and snacks. Grimm considers Lyse his best friend.
M'naago - Second cousin
Turns out they're related on Grimm's father’s side. Neither knew that the other existed until fairly recently. They get along fine.
Lalah - Other second cousin
They’ve vaguely known of one another since childhood since they’re related on Grimm’s mother’s side, but didn’t meet until Lalah’s recent duties (Sage quests) brought her to Limsa Lominsa.
Zenos - Dang, I Love Fighting Shinryu
Grimm hates his guts.
The Crystal Exarch - It's complicated
Grimm’s feelings towards the Exarch are complicated. Something about the Exarch reminds him of someone precious from long ago and draws him closer, yet Grimm can’t help but keep the Exarch at arm’s length because of how his plan to defeat the Lightwardens seems to keep putting Chai in harm’s way. And yet, Grimm can’t bring himself to hate the Exarch, for it was his summoning spell going wrong that allowed Clove to exist and live as her own person instead of disappearing entirely.
Croissant - Married in another timeline
In an alternate universe where neither is the Warrior of Light, they got married to scam the Ishgardian church for land/taxes to open a bakery and delivery service together.

Thalia

Grimm inherited the soul of a hopeful young woman named Thalia. Emet-Selch would have described Thalia as "undeserving to serve as Azem's apprentice" on account of her constant blunders and lack of magical talent. But still, Azem cherished her little apprentice like a little sister. She once loved Elidibus from afar. However, whatever fond feelings she once had for him have been worn away by countless cycles of life, death, and rebirth.

Chai Roscuro

Brave little spark in the dark

AGE: 11 (ARR), 16 (ENW)
PRONOUNS: They/them (pre-Stormblood), she/her (post-Stormblood)
RACE: Viera (Rava)
JOBS: WAR, DRG, DRK, RDM/PLD
The true Warrior of Light chosen by Hydaelyn, Chai was one of the countless children orphaned during the fall of Dalamud. Grimm met and adopted Chai shortly after the events of the Crystal Tower, and the unlikely duo have traveled Eorzea together ever since.Though quiet and withdrawn at first, Chai begins to open up to her new friends and family during their time together. Chai can be very eccentric around the people she loves and trusts. She has a penchant for fighting and seeks ever-greater challenges and adventures.

BACKGROUND
- Her birth parents once served the Garlean Empire but left independently and met one another in Eorzea.
- Chai’s father, Macchiato Roscuro, was a conscript who escaped and became a Reaper of the Lemures.
- Chai’s mother, Sencha Roscuro, lived near Lapis Manalis and was a close friend of Drusilla. When Drusilla left the Empire, Sencha followed.
- Chai was separated from Drusilla (her godmother) and the rest of the Lemures during the chaos of the Seventh Umbral Calamity.
- During her days at the orphanage, Chai dreamed of becoming a knight and seeing far-off lands.
NOTES
- Cid once gifted her a pair of magitek rollerblades that allows her to rollerblade on any surface.
- In Endwalker, Chai's fighting style is a hybrid of Red Mage and Paladin (Prism Knight).
- She enjoys crafting and fishing in her spare time.
- She stores her Soul Crystals on a keychain.
- Favorite food is soup (generic).

Relationships

Grimm - Beloved dad
Chai loves and looks up to her dad. For the longest time, Grimm was the only person Chai felt comfortable talking to. Chai does worry a lot about Grimm’s safety, but she doesn’t let it show. Knowing that he’s always there for her fills her with determination!
Clove - Dear sister
For the longest time, Chai refused to acknowledge that Clove was born from the darkness within her heart, and their relationship was contentious at best. Chai eventually warmed up to Clove during their adventures in Doma, and she was greatly saddened when it came time for her to accept Clove as part of her and say goodbye to her.
The goodbye was short-lived, and Chai felt nothing but delight after she found out that the Exarch’s misfired summoning spell separated Clove's soul from her own. While Clove is trying to figure out what kind of person she wants to be, Chai is right there by her side to support her!G'raha - Dad's boyfriend
Chai isn't too close with G'raha, but she's mostly just happy that Grimm has been reunited with the person he loves. Chai does know that G'raha would do anything that she asked of him, and she uses that power responsibly (to get an irresponsible number of snacks).
Haurchefant - Dead dad
During her time in Ishgard, Chai trained under Haurchefant to learn how to be a knight and fulfill her dream. Next to Grimm, Haurchefant was the only person that Chai would call family at the time, and there were many days where she spent more time hanging out with Haurchefant than Grimm. The heartbreak from Haurchefant's death caused Chai's inner darkness to manifest a physical form–Clove.
Vidofnir - Dragon auntie
After learning that Viera easily live over 300 years and that she would outlive all of their friends and family, Chai seeks out Vidofnir for advice. They agree to meet up once a year at Anyx Trine to exchange stories for however long Chai lives.
Ardbert - Ghost bro
Chai doesn't mind the sad ghost man that hangs out with her at the Pendants. Not wanting to worry her father and her sister, Chai often vents to Ardbert about her stresses around being the Warrior of Darkness. After saving the First, Chai sometimes sees Ardbert in her dreams.
Drusilla - Cool godmother
Drusilla initially assumed that Chai had died with her parents during the fall of Dalamud, and she was pleasantly surprised to find that Chai survived. She is more than happy to tell Chai about her birth parents.
Macchiato and Sencha
Chai doesn’t remember her birth parents’ voices and faces very well, but she will always remember how much they loved her.

Amalthea

Shepherd to the stars in the dark

In an era long forgotten, when the world was once whole and unsundered, Chai was once known as Amalthea, who occupied the seat of Azem the Traveller. Emet-Selch would have described her as "eccentric and best handled in small doses."Amalthea appreciated the beauty in things that often went overlooked. In addition to crafting a spell that could call her friends to her side in times of need, she also perfected a powerful shielding spell that was said to protect the bearer from all harm. This spell has been lost to time.

Clove

Born from love and loss and fire

AGE: 12 (?) (HW), 16 (?) (ENW)
PRONOUNS: They/them (pre-Stormblood), she/her (post-Stormblood)
RACE: Living Shadow -> Viera (Rava)
JOBS: DRK -> BRD/RPR
The physical manifestation of Chai's repressed sadness, anger, and fear who took form after the events of the Vault, later named "Clove" by Grimm. Clove yearns to be acknowledged and accepted by Chai.Through traveling with Grimm, Chai, and the rest of the Scions, Clove begins to develop her own sense of self and eventually her own soul. She merges with Chai when Chai finally accepts her inner darkness, but the Crystal Exarch's misfired summoning spell separates Clove and Chai's souls.

NOTES
- As a consequence of being "born" in Ishgard and spending her formative years in Amh Araeng, Clove has no sense of taste.
- She summoned a voidsent named Kevin to help her do her taxes. She has no idea how to send him back and now Kevin is stuck with the gang.
- After meeting the Lemures, Clove inherits Chai's birth father's Reaper Soul Crystal and scythe.
- In Endwalker, Clove's fighting style is a hybrid of Bard and Reaper (Voidcaller).
- Favorite food is anything with an interesting texture.

The Chai and Clove Situation

Relationships

Grimm - Dad
Clove is initially belligerent and hostile towards Grimm. She eventually warms up to him over the course of their adventures, but she's still a rebellious and chaotic kid.
Chai - Dear sister
At first, Clove relentlessly tried to convince Chai to accept the darkness within her heart (and embrace violence as an answer to all of her problems). After becoming her own person, Clove becomes less abrasive towards Chai, and her presence is calming whenever Chai feels overwhelmed. Clove is glad to have someone she can call family.
Rielle - Crush
Clove crushes on Rielle real bad and is a complete disaster about it.
The Crystal Exarch - Interdimensional dad
The Exarch feels immense responsibility over accidentally separating Clove's soul from Chai. In the year that Clove spent on the First, the Exarch tried his best to care for her and help her figure out what she wanted to do with her newfound independence. He was a large influence in Clove figuring out what kind of person she wants to be.
Lyna - Sister from another realm
Lyna was like an older sister to Clove during her time on the First. When Clove realized that she lost her abilities as a Dark Knight as a consequence of being separated from Chai and crossing between worlds, Lyna taught her how to fight again.
Kevin - Tried to summon a Voidsent accountant, got a big brother
He grumbles about being stuck with Clove and her family after a "tax-expert summoning ritual" went horribly wrong, but he wouldn't abandon them even if given the chance. Clove reminds Kevin of his little sister, Carol, who he lost when his home realm fell to darkness.
Drusilla - Cool aunt
Drusilla is none too pleased to find a teenager and a voidsent wandering around Ul'dah, so she takes Clove under her wing to instruct her in the art of the Reaper. It's thanks to Clove that Drusilla finds out that her goddaughter, Chai, survived the fall of Dalamud. Clove thinks Drusilla is very cool and wants to be like her when she's older.

Kevin (top) and Clove's Enshroud form (bottom)
